Powercast wireless sensor operates 25+ years with Tadiran

Tadiran Batteries has announced that Powercast Corporation has chosen Tadiran PulsesPlus™ hybrid lithium batteries to power its latest innovation, the WSN-1101, a wireless sensor that measures temperature and humidity for building automation, HVAC and lighting control, energy management, industrial monitoring and medical applications.
 
Powercast is utilizing Tadiran long-life lithium batteries to ensure that the WSN-1101 can operate maintenance-free for decades, even in severe environmental conditions. The WSN-1101 is designed for indoor applications ranging from -20°C to 50°C.
 
While Powercast specializes in energy harvesting technologies, for this particular application the company specified Tadiran PulsesPlus batteries, a patented technology that supplies wireless sensors with high current pulses required for data acquisition and transmission. According to Harry Ostaffe, VP Marketing and Sales for Powercast, "We chose Tadiran PulsesPlus batteries to power our ultra-long life wireless sensors since their batteries have field-proven performance in harsh environments, high energy density, and extremely low self-discharge."
 
With its pre-installed, non-replaceable PulsesPlus battery, the WSN-1101 can transit data once per minute for more than 25 years while retaining an inconspicuous presence within its small, 4" x 2" x 1" wall-mount enclosure.

WSN-1101 wireless sensors communicate with Powercast's WSG-101 wireless gateway, which supports up to 100 sensor nodes and 800 sensor ports. The WSG-101 gateway interfaces with wired Building Automation Systems (BAS) networks via industry-standard protocols, including BACnet, Modbus, Metasys N2, LonWorks, XML and SNMP. Data transmitted from these sensors can be easily integrated with HVAC systems from Johnson Controls, Trane, and other leading manufacturers.
 
This affordable, wireless sensor configuration can significantly reduce new construction and renovation costs, especially with concrete or cinder block walls that cannot be easily retrofitted for hard-wired solutions. In certain instances, wireless repeaters are utilized to boost RF signal strength, thus enabling the wireless network's operational range to be extended indefinitely.
