Glossary: Optical Memory
In the context of cards and tickets, this means a raster scanned optical memory stripe invented by Drexler Corporation and licensed to Canon and others, its own version being branded LaserCard. RFID cards for national ID in Italy and China have an optical memory stripe because it is not yet cost effective to have the one megabit or more of memory for biometrics etc on the RFID chip.
