Glossary: Organic

Relating or belonging to the class of chemical compounds having a carbon basis. Some say it is a term that refers to molecules made up of two or more atoms of carbon. Molecular carbon is usually referred to as organic although only one element is involved. It can have the highest electrical and thermal conductivity of any material and the highest charge carrier mobilities without need for super conduction. Fullerine "buckyball" C60 efficiently suppresses electroluminescence in organic semiconductors this making it a useful additive in photovoltaic semiconductor formulations. Another use of molecular carbon in printed electronics may be in quantum dot devices.
